PROCESS: LADY JUSTICE WITH A LAPTOP

lady justice with laptop

I did this for our IT department at the Law School. It’s one of those ideas I didn’t have to think about very much: if you walk around a law school at finals, you don’t see students doing much but tapping away at laptops.

A rough sketch for the general idea:

Start cutting and pasting stuff into Photoshop from Google Image Search:

Draw a (slightly) tighter sketch:

Carve:

Then see a much better-executed idea in the NYTimes:

That’s great. I don’t know if you have a copy of the book “Graphic Witness” - it’s a recently released collection of four wordless graphic novels by the likes of Masereel and Lynd Ward. Anyway, it’s a gorgeous book, and as I worked my way through it one of the things I was reminded of was your work, which I always enjoy.

Nick — I’ve had my eye on that book for a while now. I just got a $25 amazon certificate, so I think I’m gonna have to grab it. Thanks for reminding me!
